Rodger Cuzner

First elected to the House of Commons in 2000, Rodger Cuzner has since been re-elected five times as the Member of Parliament for Cape Breton—Canso. As an MP, Rodger has served as a member of several committees, as Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, as Chief Whip of the Official Opposition, and as Chair of Atlantic Caucus. He was named Opposition Critic for a variety of portfolios including Sport, Veterans’ Affairs, Fisheries and Oceans, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Rodger currently serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, Rodger is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish with a degree in Physical Education. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a special event coordinator for the Cape Breton Department of Recreation, Culture, and Facilities, and as Athletic Coordinator for the City of Fort McMurrray. Rodger was also a sports columnist for Fort McMurray Today and a commentator for CJOK Radio. He has long been committed to the sport of hockey and to ensuring that Canadians are provided with opportunities to succeed at our national sport. In 1995 and 1999, he served as a coach for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Games and is a founding member of the Cape Breton Sport Heritage Awards Committee.
